L: No,I’m Lazy Lady~

Hello I am Alice from Lazy Lady ! You're listening to the Lazy Lady Radio broadcast.

Long time no see. How's it going? Good?Good!Have you been lazy lately?

Guess what we will talk about today! You must be familiar with this, and you may take this in PE class. Probably you already know! Right! It is taichi !

L: No, I don’t know that...Actually I have no idea what it is. Have fun with yourself!

TaiChiQuan , is one form of Chinese martial arts which consists of a sequence of dynamic movements that adhere to Chinese Yin Yang philosophy. The art is practiced for health benefits and also can be used for defending purpose.

Taichi routines are usually typified by gentle and slow movements but some schools have secondary forms that are of fast pace, fast jumps, leaps and explosive energy releases. During practice, the body remains relaxed with the practitioners’ consciousness, breathing and actions all closely connected. These unique features enhance benefits to health and fitness. Taichiquan can be practiced by anyone regardless of age and sex.

To begin with this topic. Here are a funny anecdote about taichi l'd like to share with you.

In the 1940s, a man known as "Big Spear Liu" came to Shanghai's "big world," the city's major performance and entertainment centre. Liu asked the doorkeeper, "Are there any good hands around here?", looking for a skilled opponent to challenge. The doorkeeper told "Big Spear Liu" of Tian Zhaolin . With that Liu set off to find him. He found Tian Zhaolin and immediately demanded to spar by each striking the other three times, to which Tian Zhaolin responded that it may not be necessary. He said, "Just let me touch you. If you can tolerate my touch, you win." Liu, sensing a fool and an effortless victory, immediately agreed. The two men approached and Tian Zhaolin reached out his hand to touch Liu's chest. Within a few moments, Liu's facial muscles started to contort. Soon he grimaced and his face showed signs of intense pain. Spear Liu pulled away and, after recovering, commented, "I have travelled throughout five provinces and various cities but until today I have never seen such a profound skill.

" Energy, including that of taijiquan, may be thought of as transmission by wave. Earlier generation adepts in taijiquan had an expression—"hitting the cow on this side of the Mountain." This phrase referred to hitting an opponent's front side with the pain and effect being felt on the back side. You can see how tai chi was romanticized in ancient time, but unlike that period of time , how do we see tai chi now?

Let see why taichi is still so popular in today’s world .

In China, it is believed that tai chi can delay aging and prolong life, increase flexibility, strengthen muscles and tendons, and aid in the treatment of heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, digestive disorders, skin diseases, depression, cancer, and many other illnesses. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a good deal of scientific evidence to support these claims.Bearing these limitations in mind, here are some of the documented benefits.

1.Balance and fall prevention

Most of the research on tai chi has been done in older individuals in the area of balance and fall prevention. This area of research is important because fall-related injuries are the leading cause of death from injury and disability among older adults. And because tai chi movements are slow and deliberate with shifts of body weight from one leg to the other in coordination with upper body movements (sometimes with one leg in the air), it challenges balance and many have long assumed it helps improve balance and reduce fall frequency.

2.Strength and endurance

One study looked at adults in their 60s and 70s who practiced tai chi three times a week for 12 weeks (60-minute classes). These adults were given a battery of physical-fitness tests to measure balance, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility before and after the 12 weeks. After just six weeks, statistically significant improvements were observed in balance, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility measures. Improvements in each of these areas increased further after 12 weeks. The authors of the study concluded that tai chi is a potent intervention that improved balance, upper- and lower-body muscular strength and endurance, and upper- and lower-body flexibility in older adults.

3.Walking

Walking speed decreases with age and research suggests that it may be associated with an increased risk of falling. In one study, however, it was found that individuals who practiced tai chi walked significantly more steps than individuals who did not. Walking has clearly been associated with a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other chronic illness, and so if tai chi can improve walking, then it's certainly worth giving it a try.
