March 25th–26th — An academic delegation led by Elaman Abezhanov, Vice Rector of Atyrau Oil and Gas University in Kazakhstan, paid an official visit to China University of Petroleum-Beijing at Karamay. Vice President of Karamay Xing Xiaokai welcomed the delegation, accompanied by relevant department and school leaders, as well as faculty representatives.
During the meeting, Xing Xiaokai extended a warm welcome to Vice Rector Elaman Abezhanov and his delegation. He noted that since the two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in 2024, they have achieved phased progress in faculty visits, student programs, and research collaboration. He expressed hope that both sides would further deepen mutual understanding, strengthen communication, and expand the scope of cooperation.
Elaman Abezhanov expressed his appreciation for the campus’s gracious hospitality. He remarked that through visits to the campus’s 10th Anniversary Achievement Exhibition, training base, laboratory center, and the library, the delegation had gained deep insight into the campus’s distinctive disciplines in petroleum and its advanced research facilities. He expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to elevate bilateral cooperation to a new level.
On March 26th, the delegation attended special academic lectures held during school-level exchange activities. Four professors from the delegation delivered lectures on topics including pipeline welding and international welding standards, the current state of pipeline transportation in Kazakhstan, applications of fluid seepage theory in porous media, and the prevention of complex conditions in oil and gas well drilling. Nearly 110 faculty members and students from the School of Petroleum, the School of Engineering, and the School of Arts and Sciences attended the session. Following the lectures, faculty representatives from both sides held in-depth dialogues on student development and research collaboration in areas such as oil and gas engineering, green energy, and information technology. The two parties reached a consensus on further strengthening exchanges between schools and achieving tangible outcomes in cooperation.
The visit has enhanced mutual understanding between the two institutions and laid a solid foundation for practical cooperation in talent development and collaborative research. CUP and AOGU will continue to strengthen the Sino-Kazakh scientific and educational cooperation nexus in the energy sector, making positive contributions to advancing high-level cooperation between China and Central Asia.
